Senator’s campaign office set ablaze in Sokoto

Yet-to-be identified political thugs, in the early hours of Saturday set ablaze the campaign office of Senator Ibrahim Gobir, which is located at Gandu area, along western bye-pass, within Sokoto metropolis.

The Senator, through Almustapha Hamza, his Special Assistant condemned the act when he addressed newsmen in reaction to the act that burnt the office of 10 offices and a personal property of the Senator.

Gobir who represents Sokoto East senatorial zone, recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Newsdiaryonline checks confirmed that retail outlets for Sokoto cement and MTN recharge cards in the building were also gutted by fire.

Appealing to Nigerians to engage in politics devoid of violence, chaos and destructive tendencies, Gobir said that the matter had been reported to the Police for investigations.

Estimating the losses to be worth N15 million, Gobir disclosed that 100 units of water pumping machines; furniture and computers were gutted by fire. He called on his supporters to however remain calm and law abiding.

Shu’aibu Gambo, Sokoto state Police Commissioner confirmed to Newsdiaryonline that the guard keeping watch at the razed building had been arrested for information.

”We are detaining him for further interrogation so that our thorough investigations would help us to unravel the mystery behind the incident,” he said.

Calling on the public to continue to assist the police with useful information that would nip such crimes in the bud, Gambo also appealed to members of political parties to caution their supporters
against engaging in such acts.

”The police would not condone such acts of destruction and we will leave no stone unturned to properly prosecute anyone who is found wanting in this direction.”
