The House of Assembly candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Agege Constituency 02, Mr Toyin Raheem, has urged the electorate to vote for competent people in the upcoming elections.

Raheem said on Monday in Lagos that voting in competent people to the assembly was the only way Nigerians could get good governance.

“Electorate in Agege and indeed Lagos State should know that the only way to get good governance and improved welfare is to ensure that Lagos State House of Assembly is populated by competent people like me, from various political parties.

“Any House of Assembly dominated by only one party will do nothing to protect the people or perform the oversight function of the assembly effectively.

“They will rather protect their godfather and their party, thereby jeopardising the interest of the masses, the electorate and even their employer.

“Nigerians should also be mindful this time around not to bring back candidates who performed below their expectations, they should outrightly, be rejected,” Raheem said.

He said he would ensure education was truly free in Lagos state if he eventually wins.

The candidate said also that he would ensure payment of unemployment benefit, protection for the youths, care for the aged and the widows.

According to him, I will operate an open policy and make my name and goodwill distinct in Agege.

He challenged other candidates in Agege to an open debate to discuss what a legislative house entails and how the house could make positive impacts on electorate as well as how they could come first in the projects and decisions of the governor.

Raheem urged the electorate in Agege Constituency 02 to vote massively for him to bring an end to the rot in the area.

“As for me, my manifesto is the people; they come first in any decision I will be taking as the legislator representing Agege 02 as from 2019 by Gods grace.”

Raheem urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Police and other stakeholders to ensure proper vigilance so that the election could be credible.

He said only when there was free, fair, transparent and credible poll would the right candidates emerge.

589 candidates of different parties are eying 40 seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The election date for National Assembly and Presidential elections is Feb. 16, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections will hold on March 2. (NAN)
