Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, was on Tuesday at the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto to condole with Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, over the death of his elder brother and the Ciroman Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Mai-Wurno.
The Vice President who condoled the Sultan on behalf of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Federal Government, and the entire good people of Nigeria also offered condolences to the late Ciroma’s family, the Sultanate Council, and to the government and the good people of Sokoto State.
He said “I am here on behalf of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Federal Government and the entire citizens of this country to extend our sincere condolences on the loss of our brother Ciroman Sokoto. We pray that those that he had left behind, Almighty Allah will continue to bless them.”
He described the late Ciroma as a highly respected personality, who had dedicated his entire life to the service of the people.
Vice President Sambo prayed Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the late Ciroma Aljannah Firdausi.
He also prayed Almighty Allah to grant his entire family, the Sultan and his council, the government and the good people of Sokoto the strength to bear the loss.
In his response, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, speaking on behalf of the entire family and the citizens of Sokoto State thanked President Jonathan and the good people of Nigeria for their condolences.
He expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the kind words of the Vice President. He used the opportunity to pray for continued peace, stability and progress in Nigeria.
Prayers were offered to Almighty Allah for the repose of the soul of the departed and for continued peace and tranquility in Nigeria.
The late Ciroman Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Mai-Wurno died last Tuesday at the age of 72. He is the son of the late Sultan Abubakar III and the elder brother of the incumbent Sultan.
The Vice President was at the Palace of the Sultan in company of the Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako, and some other notable dignitaries including the Emir of Lafiya, Alhaji Mustapha Agwai II, Emir of Brinin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Maigwari and the Agwan Atyab. Mr. Harrison Bongon.
Others on the Vice President’s entourage were Senator Mohammed Magoro,
Senator Sahabi Yau and Senator Abubakar Bagudu as well as the Minister of Special Duties Alhaji Tanimu Turaki among other top government functionaries.
Present at the occasion were former President Aliyu Shehu Shagari, State legislators and members of the Executive Council, members of the Sultanate Council as well as other notable personalities from the State.
