Rights abuse, crimes against humanity: UK Body files petition against members of Nigerian Armed Forces

The African Bar Association (AFBA) said Thursday that it has “received a very strong Petition from the Temple Garden Chambers, London, United Kingdom bordering on allegations of Gross Human Rights Violations and Crimes against humanity committed by members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of the ECOWAS Intervention Force (ECOMOG) drafted to intervene in the civil conflict that engulfed Sierra Leone between 1997 and 2000.”

Osa Director, Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, AFBA who disclosed this development in a statement emailed to Newsdiaryonline  said further that  Lead Counsels representing the Victims, Dato’ Shyamala Alagendra and Karim Khan QC have requested AFBA to do a thorough investigation of the allegations and assist in getting Justice for the Victims.

The statement said “The African Bar Association is very concerned about these serious allegations which are already receiving due attention.

AFBA assured the Victims and Lead Counsels that it will do everything possible to ensure Justice is done, if investigations confirm the said atrocities.
