Prof. Godwin Onu,rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko has been honoured by the Governing Council for the infrastructural development he embarked upon. The council described the rector as an exceptional achiever.
Presenting a plaque to the Rector at the Council Chambers,Dr. Azubike Odukwe, Chairman of the Council said it was to mark the beginning of rector’s second term-You may add, a reminder for him to do more.He recalled that the Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COHEADS) who visited the polytechnic last week affirmed the giant strides of Onu in infrastructural development. The chairman noted also that the rector has made the polytechnic to rank among the best in the country.
According to Ndukwe,“We are happy to say that this present governing council in the Polytechnic is God sent and that Rector, whose appointment has been renewed for another four years is also a God sent. He is a focused manager who is not giving in to distractions. So on behalf of the Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Oko, I present to Prof. Godwin Onu a commemoration plaque for his commencement of a second tenure as Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, 2014-2017 and we wish him a very bountiful tenure because we believe and know that he will do more than he did in the first tenure”.
An obviously thrilled Onu in his reply said “I feel honoured and motivated to be spurred to greater achievements with the present governing council. To the best of my knowledge this is the first time a governing council is given an award to rector in this country. God is at work here and I am priviledged to be part of it. Destiny has put in people with the zeal to redeem this polytechnic and reposition it for greater success”.
“I want to thank the members of the Council on behalf of my family and the polytechnic community for the great honour done to me. I believe that by the time we finish our tenure here the polytechnic will take its proper place as one of the best institutions in the world. I want to promise you that I will not forget this day or joke with this Council and I will do my best to encourage you”. Onu said.
The rector however pleaded that “ even if I make mistakes as a human, please call my attention and I will make amend. I am a man of peace and there is no alternative to peace and with the present Council, peace has returned to the polytechnic. I want to commend the Chairman of the council for being a father and a role model to this polytechnic and the entire Council for this honour”.
No matter, the rector can revel in the inspiring honour as he begins his second term.
