Rebuttal: Curious Pattern Of Wrongful Attribution Of Statements To #Bringbackourgirls Movement

BringBackOurGirls -Chibok girlsWe have in recent times observed a ratchet of very strange statements being attributed to our Citizens Movement, the #Bringbackourgirls campaign for our 219 abducted ChibokGirls. Recent news reports now quote anonymous individuals who reports purport to be members of BBOG but those statements do not represent the position of our Movement.

We are a well organized citizens movement with appropriate leadership and official spokespersons who are mandated according to our public communication strategy to speak on behalf of our Movement.

Therefore any public statements not made by our leadership or officially designated spokespersons of our Movement should be discountenanced and ignored by the public because they do not represent the position of #BringBackOurGirls. Statements made by members not designated in their personal capacity cannot and should never be attributed to our Movement.

For the avoidance of doubt, those designated to speak on behalf of the Movement at all times are the Co- Conveners of #BringBackOurGirls – Abuja Family– Hadiza Bala Usman, Oby Ezekwesili, Maryam Uwais, Saudatu Madhi. All members of our strategic team also speak on behalf of BBOG- Abuja Family namely; Jibrin Ibrahim, Bukky Shonibare, Florence Uzor, Rotimi Olawale, Aisha Yesufu, Maureen kabrik, Mariam Ikunaiye, Dauda Iliya and Tunji Olanrewaju

From time to time, our Movement can officially designate specific members to represent us and speak on our behalf on issues touching on our advocacy. In such instances, whoever that individual may be will represent our position and so attribution to #BringBackOurGirls would be appropriate and in order.

Recently, our attention was drawn to news reports purporting that our Movement will be proceeding to court for an action against the President of CAN. We wish to state unequivocally that we do not have any such plan as a Movement. The news report quoting some members of BBOG as heading to court for legal actions against the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN ) President did not emanate from our Movement and should have never been attributed to us.

We, are like all other Nigerians demanding that the Federal Government fully investigates and publishes details of its findings on the extremely embarrassing seizure of $9.3m public resources allegedly exported to South Africa for activities related to procurement by our Military. We believe that the Federal Government owes the Nigerian public accountability for the very disconcerting occurrence in the light of the seriousness of financing our counter insurgency war.

However, we are standing resolute in pursuing our SINGLE ISSUE objective as a Movement. Our campaign focus remains solely to advocate for the rescue of the 219 abducted chibok girls and we remain committed to this until our Girls are brought back. We have never and will never join forces with any political or ethnic groups. Our daily meetings which we are known as “sit outs” are conducted in the open and all members of the general public are invited to join us daily at the Unity Fountain as we advocate for our 219 #ChibokGirls.
