Protests amidst chanting of solidarity songs by different groups of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP created some disturbing scenes at the Legacy House venue of the South South Zonal integration committee in Abuja today .The panel met for the first time today since it was constituted alongside other zonal committees about a month ago.
Several members of the PDP from Rivers State started arriving at the venue as early as 7 am to present their positions on the state of affairs in the party in the state.
However, trouble started when shortly after the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, entered the building and the door was shut behind him.It was Hon. Lolo Ibieneye, a leader of the PDP in Rivers State who immediately challenged the move to shut the door and there was an altercation between him and Wike.
The security personnel at the gate thereafter chased everyone in the vicinity away including the pressmen and cameramen who had some of their equipment damaged in the process. For reasons best known to the panel, no one of the other governorship aspirants at the venue was allowed to enter to meet with the committee to present their positions on the situation of the party back home. They were seen standing outside to bemoan their fate.
Aspirants present at the venue but disallowed entrance into the premises included Becks Dagogo-Jack, Samson Ngeribara, Oseleye Ojuka, Lee Maeba and others.
Also party leaders prevented to enter were Barrister Fafaa Dan Princewill, Professor John Owate, Dr. John Imege and several others who lamented what they described as “indecent act in a democracy.”
Subsequently, there were protests outside the building as different political groups from the Rivers PDP with their banners chanted solidarity songs to denounce the actions of the committee which they alleged were instigated by the minister who is believed to be aspiring to run for governor in the state.
Groups such as Lancelot Anyanya supportres, The Third Force, Concerned Nigerian Students were among groups who were outside the building to protest.

The situation later became uncontrollable when at about 11.40 am gun welding policemen chased away the protesters.
