“It is a major embarrassment that Nigeria is one of the three polio most affected countries. All because of sentiments and people taking advantage of the ignorance of the ordinary citizen,”Senator regretted .
Speaking when the Rotary Club International District 9125 incoming and outgoing governors visited him in Abuja , Senator Mark stressed that Nigerians from which ever divide should be free to practice their religion without inhibition , reiterating that Nigeria is a secular state adequately prescribed in the constitution.
Senator Mark noted that it is ungodly for some elite to mislead the uninformed, saying , ” We must do all we can in collaboration with voluntary organizations or non governmental organizations to eradicate polio and remove this shame and embarrassment on the nation”.
He also praised the Rotary International for helping to eradicate polio and partnering with government to provide water for the needy as well as improving sanitation across the country.
Such efforts, Senator Mark added would greatly alleviate the suffering of the citizens and improve the standard of living.
Earlier, the in coming governor of Rotary 9125 Mr. Aninze Felix who would take over from Rotarian Felix Obadan on July 2013 said his focus would be on sanitation and provision of water to the needy in the society..
He explained that Rotary International is a volunteer organisation of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian services and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.
