The Police in Sokoto are hunting for a businessman, Alhaji Abu Dankure, who is reported to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, Wednesday night.
Newsdiaryonline.com learnt that the gun-wielding kidnappers carried out the act at the site of a new business plaza being constructed at Kupper area on the western bye-pass in Sokoto metropolis by 9pm.
Newsdiaryonline.com further gathered that two of the four hoodlums, who were armed with rifles, fired several warning shots after which they kidnapped Dankure while he was being driven by his official driver, Hussaini Shehu in company of a Gada-based Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abubakar Gada.
Speaking with Newsdiaryonline.com, in Sokoto on Thursday, the driver said that the four kidnappers came in a Honda motor vehicle, wielding guns.
“They fired several shots in the air and pushed me and Gada out of the vehicle. They put Alhaji in their own vehicle and drove off in different directions,” he explained.
Also telling Newsdiaryonline.com of the ordeal, Gada said that they left the Shehu Juma’at Mosque at around 8pm at where they said the Sun-set and night prayers.
“We went to the Governor’s personal residence at Gawon Nama where Alhaji went to greet the governor. We left there at around 8.30pm to the site where he is constructing a new plaza at the Kupper area. Unknown to all of us, the kidnappers were trailing us and they struck,” he explained.
Alhaji Shuaibu Gambo, the State Commissioner of Police confirmed the incident to Newsdiaryonline.com saying that investigations had begun and that Dankure’s vehicle
was found at a farmland near Durbawa village, Kware local government of the state. “It has registration number, “Sarkin Fadan Sarkin Musulmi — Alhaji Abu Kure.”
He added that the vehicle was recovered by a combined patrol team from the Unguwar Rogo and Kware Police Divisions of the Command.
“The vehicle was intact when it was found and is now in the custody of the state police command, while efforts are on to trail the kidnappers and the business tycoon,” Gambo told Newsdiaryonline.com adding, “We have blocked all the entry and exit points and we will not relent on our efforts until we apprehend the kidnappers,” Gambo vowed.
