#TrackNigeria: The Lagos state Police command says it arrested five robbery suspects and recovered arms.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana Sunday said the suspects were sighted behind angle 90 bar, Ilasan, Lekki.
“On 19/07/19 at about 1330hrs, Ilasan Police Station received that, a group of hoodlums, suspected to be armed robbers/cultists, were sighted behind angle 90 bar, Ilasan, Lekki. A team of policemen was quickly mobilized to the scene.
“The leader of the gang, named Ibrahim Abu ‘m’ 32yrs old and four others, namely: Samuel Usai ‘m’; John Nwaru ‘m’; Emmanuel Moro ‘m’ and Michael Daniel ‘m’, were arrested. On searching the suspects, one locally made pistol with ten (10) unexpended cartridges were recovered. Investigation is ongoing, suspects will be charged to Court.”
Elkana further stated that the Command also arrested arrest 34 Awawa Boys.
“On 17/07/19 at about 0830hrs, acting on credible intelligence, Operatives of Operation Crush raided some criminal hideouts within Akerele areas, Agege.
“34 suspects known as ”awawa boys”, who have been terrorising the areas were arrested while 7 bags of weeds, suspected to be indian hemp were recovered. Meanwhile, the suspects were handed over to Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution.”
He stated that 38 cult members were arrested “On 16/07/19 at about 0930hrs, youths from Idiroko, Adeola and Ajose of Owutu area in Ikorodu, engaged themselves in a supremacy fight at Idiroko area, Owutu, Ikorodu.
“In the process, the youths attacked passersby and damaged some vehicles within the area. However, combined teams of policemen mobilized to the scene, successfully brought the situation under control and restored normalcy to the area. 38 suspects were arrested and taken to Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution.
“Meanwhile, security has been beefed-up in area to forestall further threat to law and order.”
“In a related development, on 20th/7/2019 at about 2145hrs Bariga Police Station, arrested one Alayakin Azeez Olawale ‘m’ 32 years old at Egbenrogde Street.
“The suspect was identified as the leader of a group of Aiye confraternity members that had earlier in the day attempted to cause a breach of peace within bariga town.
“Investigation is ongoing and suspect will be charged to Court,” the statement read.
