Police Arrest 40 Political Thugs In Sokoto,Charge 23 To Court

The Police in Sokoto on Tuesday said that the Command has arrested 40 youths alleged to be political thugs.
Shaiubu Gambo, the state Commissioner of Police who told Journalists that the suspects belonged to various political parties, also said that 23 of the suspects had been charged to court while 17 were assisting the police in further investigations.
“Already, 23 of the suspects had been charged to court while investigations are going on in connection with the remaining 17 suspects,” he said.
Adding that 10 of the suspects were arrested for allegedly attacking the convoy of Governor Aliyu Wamakko on March 29, Gambo stressed that the command had taken measures to arrest and prosecute criminals in the state. “We will not tolerate any act of political violence, as a special unit with effective communication gadgets, charged with the responsibilities of apprehending thugs, is always on red alert,” he said.
He called on political parties in the to sensitise their supporters on the need to adhere to the rule of the game. “Any act of violence that will tamper with the peaceful nature of the state will not be condoned.”
Similarly, the command has also impounded a vehicle in which dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found.
Gambo said that the driver of the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled.
