A group, the Ijaw Development Movement (IJDM), Tuesday congratulated former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva on the attainment of 48. It also praised him for making Ijaws at home and abroad proud by his feats.
The group in a statement signed by its coordinator, Ibifuro Thompson Tatua, described Sylva as a special breed from Almighty God.
“He is a blessing to Bayelsa State. He brought his maturity, fairness and commitment to service of his people to bear in steering the ship of state. Also, through his pragmatic and proactive approach, he sustained peace in the state ”
The group also dismissed the performance of those before Sylva, saying no former governor can match Sylva’s place in Bayelsa’s history.
According to the group, Sylva acquitted himself in the discharge of his mandate through the execution of people oriented programmes and policies, which earned him praises from the people of the state and beyond.
Recalling his days as executive governor of the state, particularly his three pronged agenda namely peace and security, construction of the state’s sustainable strategy needs and good governance, the group said Sylva reached out, touched many and brought Bayelsans together for the purpose of rebuilding the state.
“He was able to impact on all sectors, ranging from road network, healthcare services, housing projects and education among other infrastructure projects.”
Lamenting the way Sylva was treated in the last governorship election in the state, the group urged political leaders in the country to expand their horizon and be inclusive.
it called on all supporters of the former governor from within and outside the country to stand up against what it referred to as orchestrated antagonism of their leader.
The group further advised Sylva not to bear any grudge against those who manipulated the system to show him the way out of government house and also stopped his second term bid.
The group while wishing the former governor good health, long life and prosperity as he continues his good work to the Ijaw nation, the Nigerian State and humanity, implored him to remain undaunted in the face of persecution .
