Despite the recent passing of Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. TA Lagbaja, the Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating it remains “inspired by Lagbaja’s actions on the battlefield.”

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Abuja, the loss will not shift the military’s focus in its mission to destroy terrorist groups across Nigeria.

“Our strategy remains to undermine the abilities of these terror groups, ensuring they have no room to operate,” stated Buba. Military forces conducted simultaneous strikes on terrorist hideouts nationwide in October, with Nigerian Air Force precision bombardments significantly diminishing terrorist fighting capacity. Altogether, 481 terrorists were neutralized, 741 individuals arrested, and 492 hostages rescued over the month,” he added.

Buba detailed a robust collection of weapons recovered, including 263 AK-47 rifles, 9,026 rounds of ammunition, and 3.2 million liters of stolen crude oil, underscoring the military’s success in countering both terrorist threats and economic sabotage.

In response to growing surrenders among terror leaders and combatants, the military has also opened a surrendering corridor, offering safe passage for those willing to lay down arms. “We remain in a strong position in this war,” Buba affirmed, “and are resolved to bring security to all citizens.”
