(Breaking News in Nigeria)The Save Adamawa State Movement (SASM) has demanded an unreserved apology from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for the imposition of Governor Murtala Nyako on Adamawa State.The group claimed Nyako was imposed “as a result of the insult he(Obasanjo) allegedly received from his former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.”
SASM in a statement issued by its National Co-ordinator Engineer Albert Stephen said that former President Obasanjo grievously wronged the people of Adamawa State by imposing Nyako who is well known for his lack of capacity .
”It was his failure to perform that made obasanjo remove him as Military Administrator of Niger State. General Ibrahim Babangida also removed him as Chief of Naval Staff. Infact, Babangida had to create the office of deputy chief of defence staff to enable him ease out Nyako… As a civilian governor, his record is nothing to write home about”‘, the group claimed.
Accordingly, the group urged Obasanjo to as a matter of urgency and utmost necessity tender a public apology to the people of Adamawa State.
It noted that that already, his co- traveler, Prof. Jibril Aminu who was part of the conspiracy against the people of Adamawa has since apologised for the misdemeanor and crime against humanity.
Nyako and some rebel governors are locked in a battle against the Bamanga Tukur led PDP.The G7 to which Nyako belong believes President Goodluck Jonathan should not run for reelection in 2013.
So the tirade against Nyako by this Adamawa group may be part of the campaigns to tackle the governor in his state, observers said.Obasanjo is also known to have a frosty relationship with Jonathan.It also appears the former president is friendlier towards some G7 members.
Nonetheless, SASM said, “Former President Obasanjo has a history of never forgiving anybody that offends him. Like an elephant he never forgets. He fooled the North into believing he loves them. But like they say, a leopard does not change its spots”. In 2007 he imposed a sick Umaru Yar’Adua as President, knowing fully well that he would not last the distance. The implication of this, is that the North has been and will most likely be out of power for more than 30 years. This is the punishment for the North for his (Obasanjo) travails in the hands of General Sani Abacha” said the co-ordinator.
At Adamawa State , he also imposed Governor Murtala Nyako on the people due to the alleged “insults” he received from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his then Vice
President.Obasanjo reportedly begged Atiku for his support in the 2003 elections.”
Engineer Stephen also claimed that former President Obasanjo as military Head of State, removed Nyakofrom a post for alleged non performance.
He said: “The question then is, what did Obasanjo see differently in a man he described as failure in 1977, that in 2007 he had to impose him on Adamawa State? The answer is simple- it was for the sins of our son Atiku Abubakar.
He described the imposition of Nyako as the Obasanjo backward agenda for Adamawa State ,stressing that sadly Governor Nyako is more than fulfilling the mandate. That of the 31,0000 students that sat for WAEC in 2012,only 1,000 passed. Civil servants salary is paid at the pleasure of the governor due to poor economic management.Roads are in a terrible state.
“We call on former President Obasanjo to toe the path of honour and apologise or the blood of all those who have died because of lack of drugs in hospitals and medical personnel, those involved in accidents because of bad roads among other vices in the state would be on his hands .
