By all indications, Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, may not be in a hurry to reconcile with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as he is determined to fight on until the perceived injustice meted to him is redressed. He has also said that surrendering to the national leadership of the party would amount to political suicide. He said such a move would make him as the governor lose grip of a structure he is meant to be the leader.
Nyako speaking in Yola while receiving in audience national leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC)led by the party’s North East,National Vice Chairman Alh.Umar Duhu maintained that , “You can’t be a governor and you do not have a control of the party in government. It is unthinkable,’’ .
The governor, however said that ongoing consultations by the governors were meant to help save the PDP from complete collapse, but in the event of their failure they would help bury the party. He noted with concern that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is being plagued by a serious illness and that they are awaiting its death to give it a befitting burial.
Nyako further added that some of the stakeholders only deemed it fit to remain in the party due to the political positions they occupy presently and if the party failed to survive its self-inflicted illness, they will give it a befitting burial and leave for good.
According to Nyako, “People are saying that the PDP is dead or about to die but a concerned person like me will remain in the party till it dies and give it a befitting burial. If PDP will die, let it die in our hands so that we will give it a befitting burial and mourn her.”
He said the party is currently going through its worst times as a result of the highhandedness and anarchy with which the leadership of the party at the National level is addressing issues.
Governor Nyako who had given the nod for his supporters to decamp to the newly registered APC, said he would remain in the PDP. Speaking earlier, the APC North East National Vice Chairman ,Umar Duhu said they were at the Government House,Yola to felicitate with the
governor for the peaceful conduct of Sallah celebrations in Adamawa and praised him, as well as urge him and the other G7 governors, “as a matter of urgency pitch tent and join APC’’ .
