The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has enjoined Christian faithful to conduct themselves very well during the Lenten season which began Wednesday in order to maximize the spiritual and physical benefits inherent in the season.

Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu made the call in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.

The forum identified good intention, prayers and firmness of purpose in the pursuit of good deeds as conditions for reaping the benefits of the holy season.

The statement emphasized the need for the faithful to fast, pray and abstain from heavy meals and other bad habits as well as give alms during the Lenten period.

It urged them to accord it all the necessary attention by being proactive in decisions and actions that will ensure their full participation in the fast.

“The Ash Wednesday which signifies the commencement of the 40-day Lenten season is characterized by penance, reflection and fasting which prepares Christian faithful for Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday and should therefore be taken very seriously by all Christians,” the statement said.

The forum urged Christian clergy to educate their congregations on what is expected of Christians during the holy season to earn God’s blessings.
