NLC, AFL-CIO calls for end to gender-based violence

The National Women Commission of the Nigerian Labour Congress in conjunction with the Solidarity Centre of the American Federation of Labour- Congress of Industrial Organization has called for end to gender-based violence in the labour market.

The chairperson of the National Women Commission of the NLC, Mrs. Mercy Okezie said on Friday in Abuja that all forms of gender-based violence should be condemned.

“Sexual harassment is a violation of human and trade union right, and as such should be condemned and stopped at all cost,” she said.

The head of women and youth of the NLC, Mrs. Rita Goyit said at the office of the permanent secretary of the Federal ministry of Labour and Employments that efforts should be made to protect all workers from all forms of gender-based violence.

The permanent secretary, Mr. Nwankwo William assured the delegation of good partnership to ensure an end violence in the country.

“We would reach out to every part of the country to ensure this campaign is taken to a greater height, Mr Nwankwo said.

“We all know that the president has just send to minimum wage bill of 30,000 as such let the workforce of all labour increase,” he said.
