NFF Slams 10-Year Ban On Adepoju, Lam Adesina

    The Nigeria Football Federation through it Emergency Committee has upheld the recommendation of the investigative committee into bribery allegation against a member of the Committee, Barrister Olaleye Adepoju, placing a 10-year ban on him from all football-related activities. Following a meeting of the investigative committee headed by Barrister Chris Green at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Monday, the Emergency Committee was convened to look into its recommendations with a view to treating the matter with dispatch.

    Apart from the former chairman of NFF Disciplinary Committee, Barrister Adepoju, the former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, Mr. Dapo Lam-Adesina, also bagged a 10-year ban.

    It was the unanimous position of the Emergency Committee that the case against Barrister Adepoju was proved beyond reasonable doubt.

    In a related development, the Emergency Committee also upheld the recommendation of the investigative committee into an allegation of impersonation against the Chairman of Enugu State Football Association, Mr. Chidi Ofo Okenwa, to the effect that Okenwa, indeed, has a case to answer.

    The Committee has referred the case to the Inspector General of Police for full police investigation. In the meantime, Mr. Ofo Okenwa is to step aside as Chairman of Enugu State Football Association pending the conclusion of police investigation.

    Present at the meeting were NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, Vice President, Chief Mike Umeh and other Members, Chief Emeka Inyama, Alhaji Muazu Suleyman, Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed Fresh and Alhaji Ahmad Muazu Kawu.

    All set for 69th NFF General Assembly

    Arrangements have been concluded by the Nigeria Football Federation and the Delta State Government for the 69th Annual General Assembly of Nigeria Football Federation, which takes place in Warri on Thursday.

    All 14 Members of the NFF Executive, NFF Management and 88 delegates, comprising chairmen and secretaries of all State Football Associations, chairmen and secretaries of the Premier League, National League, Women’s League and Nationwide League, and chairmen and secretaries of Nigeria Referees Association, Nigeria Coaches Association and Players’ Union are expected at the event.

    Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, chairmen of the Senate Sports Committee and the House of Reps’ Sports Committee, and former presidents and secretaries-general of the NFF have also been invited.

    The Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON will declare the AGM open while the Honourable Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi will be special guest of honour.

    Thursday’s event will kick off at 10am with the opening ceremony at the Brownhill Events Centre, which will have all dignitaries in attendance, and will be followed by the general assembly itself at the same venue.

    Premier League champions, Kano Pillars and winners of the 2013 Federation Cup, Enyimba FC of Aba will lock horns in the annual Charity Shield match at Warri City Stadium from 4pm.
