Presidential Spokesman,Dr Reuben Abati said in a statement, “The report by an online medium earlier today that the Minister of Defense, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau (rtd.) has resigned is untrue.”
“General Gusau remains in Office as Minister of Defence” Abati said.The General was said to have resigned after an alleged faceoff with service chiefs.
Gusau’s absence at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council,FEC meeting further fuelled the speculation in the afternoon.But Abati said “His absence from today’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council which was cited in support of the false report of his resignation was with the permission of President Goodluck Jonathan.”
Also today, the Ministry of Defence in a statement said the report on Gusau’s alleged resignation was untrue.
“Our attention have been drawn to a media posting on the social network to the effect that the Honourable Minister of Defence, Lt Gen Aliyu Gusau has resigned; and wish to state, categorically, that the minister has not resign his appointment” Shehu Maikai, director of press, Ministry of Defence said in a statement
Maikai thanked “all those that have called to verify the rumour and reassure you all that Lt Gen Aliyu Gusau remains the Minister of Defence.”
