Mark Leads Nigerian Delegation to IPU Conference in Canada

President of the Senate, Senator David Mark will today lead Nigerian parliamentarians to the 127th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) conference holding in Quebec, Canada.

The delegation includes: Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihediora, Senators Abdul’aziz Usman, Helen U. Esuene, Ahmed Hassan Barata,   Ehigie Edobor Uzamere and Danjuma Goje.

Nigerian House Representatives’ Daniel Reyenieju, Binta Bello Maigari, Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe, Adeyinka Ajayi and Mohammed Sani Kutigi are also on the delegation.

The conference will hold between October 20th and 26th 2012.  The theme of the Quebec Assembly special debate is Citizenship, Identity, Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in a globalised world.

The topic would be addressed in four plenary sessions centering on protecting diversity as a global value, the challenge of respecting diversity while building social cohesion, enhancing political participation and representation of minorities and indigenous groups as well as innovative ideas for managing citizenship in a globalised and rapidly changing environment.

Before the main session, Senator Mark will lead the Nigerian delegation to attend the meeting of the African Group to strategize on issues affecting the continent.
