The All Progressive Congress (APC) has netted in former gubernatorial candidates of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) during the 2007 and 2011 governorship elections in Sokoto state, Alhaji Abubakar Yabo and Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, respectively.
The duo finally joined APC on Thursday in Sokoto when Governor Aliyu Wamakko inaugurated the state headquarters of the party.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dingyadi said that he defected to the APC to ensure peace, unity and socioeconomic development of the state and Nigeria in general.
“Nobody should be in politics because of a single individual, rather because of the common interests of the nation. I am therefore calling on our colleagues and friends who, due to some reasons best known to them, to come and join the APC train,” he urged.
Dingyadi, who was Secretary to Sokoto State government during Bafarawa administration called for the support and cooperation of all and sundry to ensure the success of the APC.
On his part, Yabo stressed the need for piety in the struggle to “free” Nigeria in 2015 and beyond. “We joined the APC out of our own volition and the conviction to salvage Nigeria and contribute to her sustained peace, unity and strengthening of democracy,” he added.
Wamakko said that the turn of events had made Sokoto a more united state, politically. “Politics should be aimed at ensuring national development and not the pursuit of our selfish interests,” he added.
He urged members of the party to come out massively and register as members of the APC in order to avail themselves of opportunities.
Deputy governor to former Governor Bafarawa (2004 to 2007), Alhaji Chuso Dattijo and former Speaker of the state House of Assembly between 1999 to 2007, Alhaji Lawalli Margai, also attended the event. No tags for this post.
