Capt Idris Wada,the State Governor made the appeal at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Zonal inaugural workshop on pilgrimage Education and orientation held in Lokoja.
The Governor who described Hajj as an opportunity to uphold the tenets of Islam, says the State owe it a duty to ensure the full participation of all of its intending citizens.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy,Yomi Awoniyi, commended the NAHCOM for the opportunity given the State to host the Zonal Orientation Workshop.
He said with the zeal shown by participants from the state to the workshop, they will at the end of the program have a better understanding on the new guidelines associated with the yearly pilgrimage introduced by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
The governor appealed to the participants from the Zone to take the workshop with the seriousness it deserves as it will afford them the opportunity to understand and uphold the benefits of performing the yearly Hajj in Mecca.
Earlier in his speech,Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello,Chairman of the National Hajj Commission,described Hajj as a very important pillar of Islam,said the objectives of the workshop is to prepare pilgrims to be better purified and orderly while in the holy land.
He commended the orderly conduct of pilgrims from Kogi State to the yearly pilgrimage as well as the immense support they have always enjoyed from the state government.
Also speaking,the Grand Khadi of Sharia Court of Appeal,Justice Zakaria Mohammed,who was the Chairman of the occasion,called on moslems to see the yearly pilgrimage as a period for spiritual rejuvenation aimed at making them better citizens.
In his welcome address,Alh. Idris Baba Ango, Executive Secretary of the State Moslem Pilgrimage Welfare Board,said Kogi State pilgrims have always exhibited good conduct whenever they are in the holy land,assured that the Board will build on its successes in the year’s ahead.
Highlights of the workshop was the presentation of lectures on the expected role of a pilgrim and Hajj Officials as well as issues related to pilgrims health while in the holy land, were discoursed by various speakers.
