As a result of the constant attacks on Borno, Adamawa, Benue and Yobe where several people have been killed, including over 50 students of a secondary school, the Muslim Council of Nigeria (MCON) has condemned the attacks and declared prayer war against perpetrators of the attacks.
The Chief Imam of MCON, the apex Islamic body for the Yoruba community in Northern Nigeria, Sheikh Danniyalu Shittu who stated this at a press conference in Kaduna Tuesday said, “this killing of innocent souls must stop”.
The aged Chief Iman who spoke through, Khalifa Yunus Ahmad however called on all Imams from across the country, particularly those in the north to embark ‘Al-Qunut’ (special prayer) for Allah to expose those behind the heinous crimes.
He also called on all Muslim leaders to support the Sultan of Sokoto and the president of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III in his efforts to ensure a peaceful Nigeria.
The MCON Chief Imam however noted that, “the bombings and killings in the north have gone beyond what can be described as Boko Haram attacks, and as such the Federal Government should look at it holistically and rise up to its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians”.
He argued that, the incessant killings and bombing of predominantly Muslim communities of North-eastern Nigeria can no longer be attributed to a group which claimed to be fighting the course of Islam.
The Islamic cleric however described the situation as war against Muslims and called for concerted prayers against the it. Adding that, “all Imams in the country, particularly in the north should embark on ‘Al-Qunut’ prayers during all their five daily prayers, so that Allah will bring a permanent peace to our region and Nigeria in general”.
