The minister of environment, Mrs Laurencia Mallam has described the recent attacks and killing of 119 people in three communities in Kaura local government area of Kaduna state as devastating.
The minister who visited affected communities, the mass grave and the refugee camp where over 2000 rendered homeless by the attackers were being kept, however urged the people to be calm and law abiding as the federal government was doing everything possible to bring an end to the killings.
Mallam who comes from the area, said she was saddened by the brutal, gruesome and mindless killings and destruction of property of innocent people, saying that as an indigene of the area, she was in great pains .
“I am saddened with the gruesome killing of people. I am really devastated with these killings; I want to assure you that the government will do everything possible to ensure the safety of lives and property of people.
“I want to assure you that Mr. President will do something about the situation. I don’t want you to take the laws into your hands by trying to revenge. I want you to continue to pray to God for peace and unity. God says vengeance is His. So live in peace and leave everything to Almighty God.
“I am assuring that the President will do something about this incident. By the time I go back and I give my report, something will be done” she said.
She expressed sympathy to all those relations and love ones were killed in the attack and the
destruction of their property.
Earlier while receiving the minister at the local government secretariat in Manchok, the Vice Chairman of Kaura local government, Mr.Daniel Anyip, disclosed that the attackers were always coming from the neighbouring Riyom local government a

rea of Plateau state which shares boundaries with Kaduna communities.
Anyip said 119 people were killed in the incident while several people were still missing.
“From the initial stage, 114 dead bodies were found after the attack, five more bodies were discovered the following day bringing the death toll to 119. Many people are still missing.
“They attackers always come through Riyom local government and do the attack and then run back at the end of the attack to Riyom.
The military people in Kaduna said they cannot pursue them across to Plateau state because Plateau state is not their area of jurisdiction and so these people will come and kill our people and run back to Riyom.
