Jonathan,Northern Govs,Atiku,Others Mourn Agagu



agaguPresident Goodluck Jonathan has expressed immense sadness, over news of the passing away of the former Minister of Aviation and Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.

A statement by his spokesman ,Reuben Abati said “On behalf of himself, the Federal Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Jonathan extends sincere condolences to Dr. Agagu’s family, the government and people of Ondo State, as well as Dr. Agagu’s friends, political associates and colleagues in Ondo State and other parts of the country.

“The President joins them in mourning the distinguished academic whose exemplary decorum, poise, urbanity, finesse and loyalty in the conduct of politics will be greatly missed by all, especially his colleagues and associates in the Peoples Democratic Party.

“As they mourn however, President Jonathan believes that they can take solace in the knowledge that Dr. Agagu has left behind a legacy of notable achievements in his illustrious public service career at the state and federal levels which will stand to his eternal credit and honour.

The President prays that God Almighty will comfort all who mourn Dr. Agagu and grant his soul peaceful repose.

Northern Govs Mourn Olusegun Agagu

The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has paid tribute to the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu who passed away on Friday at the age of 65 years, saying his death marked the end of a glorious era.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State,Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said in a statement that the late Agagu was a true nationalist who lived a purposeful life of dedication to the cause of Nigeria’s unity and development as well as commitment to the upliftment of the citizenry.
The forum described the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain as a loyal party man and a diligent, principled person, who stood on the side of the people at all times. “From Agagu’s stint as a lecturer at the prestigious University of Ibadan, through his tenure as minister of aviation,to his election to the position of the Governor of Ondo State, and his life in retirement, the former Governor remained with the people,” the forum said in a
statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo.
The forum called on the Ondo State Government to honour the memory of the former Governor Olusegun Agagu to serve as an inspiration to the younger generation of Nigerians.
The forum prayed God to grant repose to the soul of the departed and grant the family he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Agagu will be missed for his brilliance – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the late Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olusegun Agagu, as a consummate politician who would be missed for his sagacity and skillfulness both in politics and public administration.

Atiku, in a condolence message on the demise of the immediate governor of the Sunshine state, noted that Agagu’s death came with a personal pain to him, “because he was a friend, and a brilliant strategist.”
Atiku noted that “late Governor Olusegun Agagu not only sat eminently among politicians of note in the country, his contribution to Geology, his area of specialization is also very impressive.

“Be it in politics, scholarly undertakings or public administration, the late Governor Agagu was a first class material. I will miss him as a friend, but the country will miss him as a worthy citizen and leader,” Atiku said.

The former Vice President extended his sympathies to the late governor’s family, the people and government of Ondo State and Nigerians as whole over the loss of a worthy scholar, thinker and leader.

Agagu’s death, big loss to Nigeria – Kalu

A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has expressed shock over the death of a former Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olusegun Agagu.
Agagu died in Lagos on Friday.
Kalu described Agagu’s demise as a big loss to the nation.
In a condolence message by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, Kalu described Agagu has a consummate politician, who played a key role in the socio-political development of Nigeria.
He said: ”It is disheartening to lose such a perfect gentleman, who, in different capacities, served his fatherland selflessly.
“He will be remembered for his peace loving and accommodating nature.
“He lived a simple life worthy of emulation.”
Kalu said it is noteworthy that Agagu left legacies as a family man and a politician, with several projects as the hallmark of his six years as governor of Ondo State.
He added: “No one can take it away from Agagu that he did his best as governor of
Ondo State.
“He left legacies that any politician would be proud of.”
Kalu urged Agagu’s family to take solace in the fact that he left good legacies behind.
He commiserated with the government and people of Ondo State on the death of the elder statesman and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.

Daniel Mourns Agagu

Otunba Gbenga Daniel former Governor of Ogun State has described the death of Dr Olusegun Agagu as a huge loss to the people of Ondo State and Nigeria. Otunba Daniel in a statement issued by his media office Otunba Daniel described Agagu as a thoroughbred professional who served his community, state, nation and humanity meritoriously .

‘Dr Agagu was a distinguished academic who brought clear vision and distinction to public service and politics. He acquitted himself creditably well and served meritoriously as Minister of the Federal Republic and Governor of Ondo State. His contributions to the development of his state and country cannot be discountenanced. He was a detribalised Nigerian who built bridges of friendship and cooperation across the country. Agagu was a good example of how politics should be played ,without bitterness and rancour. I commiserate with his wife , children ,Governor Olusegun Mimiko and the people of Ondo State. May the good Lord grant his soul eternal repose and give all of us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

PDP Expresses Grief
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed grief over the death of the former Minister of power and former governor of Ondo State, Dr.Olusegun Agagu.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chief Olisa Metuh described late Agagu as a patriot and a brilliant technocrat who discharged his responsibilities both as minister and governor with finesse.

“The Peoples Democratic Party expresses deep sorrow and conveys its heartfelt condolences on the death of the former governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Agagu. His patriotic and knowledgeable personality was outstandingly expressed as minister and governor. We wish to put on record, his pioneer contributions to the groundwork of the current power reforms of the federal government. ”

“On behalf of the National Chairman of our great party, Dr. Bamaga Tukur, CON, we send our sincere condolences to his immediate family and to the government and people of Ondo state. May he find rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
