soldiers 600President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the National Assembly to approve his request for an extension the state of emergency in Nigeria’s North eastern states, namely Adamawa,Borno and Yobe State.
Jonathan made this request in a letter to Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives respectively.
But the request is likely to face criticism in a state like Adamawa where some officials have recently expressed fears that some forces have been seeking an extension of the emergency rule in the state.
The armed forces are known to have recorded considerable success in combating the dreaded Boko Haram insurgency which led to the declaration of emergency rule in the north east. But the killing of innocent Nigerians by the insurgents has continued despite heavy military presence.
