Mr Kingsley Onwubiko, member of the works sub-committee for Chief Emeka Ihedioha, Imo Governor-elect’s inauguration, on Thursday cautioned local government councils in the state to stop last minute award of revenue collection contracts to former Transition Committee chairmen.

Onwubiko, who is an engineer and former head of works department, Ministry of Local Government Affairs in Imo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that such contracts were tantamount to corruption.

He said that it was a calculated plan by the outgoing government to empty the treasury of the state.

“The outgoing government has continued to connive with the operators of various major revenue based LGAs to award illegal revenue collection contracts to their colleagues as well employment of personnel unduly.

“Gov. Rochas Okorocha has continued to cripple the incoming administration by leaving nothing behind but huge debts, salary and pension arrears as well as other liabilities,’’ Onwubiko said.

He warned the officials of the outgoing government, especially Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS) and Treasurers to desist from such illicit acts.

Onwubiko said that the incoming government would not fail to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption by bringing culprits to book.

He particularly called on the officials not to avail themselves for purposes of corruption by politicians in order to save their careers.

The Ihedioha Inauguration Committee member noted that all unnecessary expenditure and last minute employment that were not in tune with the law would not only be halted but probed in accordance with Buhari’s war against corruption.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one of the major cardinal agenda of Buhari’s administration is war against corruption. (NAN)
