IG Redeploys CPs Amid Fresh Rivers Fears



IGPnew 600The Inspector General of Police ,MD Abubakar has ordered the redeployment of 14 Commisioners of Police .A statement by Force Spokesman, CSP Frank Mba said the redeployment is in line with the IG’s “ avowed efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for greater efficiency and better performance in the fight against crime and criminality, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, has ordered the redeployment of fourteen Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Commands and Formations.

Mba said “The affected CPs have been urged to vigorously step up the fight against all forms of criminality in their new Commands and Formations. They are enjoined to leverage on the cordial relationship among sister security agencies in their respective beats, to ensure that criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum. They have also been charged to ensure that officers and men under their supervision are mindful of the rights of the citizenry, while cultivating the trust and confidence of the public in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.

He listed the affected CP and their new postings thus CP Lawal Tanko, fdc CP Borno , CP Ibrahim Ahmed CP Zamfara , CP Hilary Okpara, mni CP Bayelsa , CP Maigari Dikko, Fdc CP Ebonyi , CP Adebayo Ajileye, mni CP Inspectorate ‘E’ Dept, FHQ, CP Adeola A. Adeniji, mni CP Border Patrol ,CP Waheed O. Salau CP Airport , and CP Markus Danladi Commandant, Police College, Maiduguri .Others include CP Tonye E. Also the statement said the IG “has ordered Six (6) Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Thirteen (13) Commissioners of Police (CPs) from various Police Commands and Formations, including Zonal Commands and Force Headquarters, to proceed on a Leadership
and Strategic Management Course for senior officers. The Course being conducted at the Centre for Management Development, Shangisha, Lagos, commences today, 19th August, 2013 and ends on 23th August, 2013”.(See statement for details )

Meanwhile the redeployment of CPs coincided with claims from sources in PortHarcourt that there may have been yet another plan by the Police High Command to transfer officers and men from Government House PortHarcourt..The report claimed that the president’s men might have hatched another plot to increase the insecurity in Rivers State and possibly endanger the life of Governor Rotimi Amaechi by transferring all police officers attached to government house.But presidency officials have always denied having a hand in Rivers crisis.

The source said these latest fears have been heightened by the presence of First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan who is on a three day visit to the state.Sources accuse her of frustrating attempts to redeploy Rivers CP Joseph Mbu.But Mrs Jonathan has repeatedly urged critics to count her out of Rivers Politics.She also cried out today, urging critics to leave her alone.

The Course is geared towards equipping the senior officers with requisite leadership and managerial skills necessary for driving the vision and mission of the current Police Management in line with ongoing reforms of the Federal Government. Training and re-training of Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force is a cardinal policy of the present Police administration.
