Goodluck-Jonathan-NigeriaAfter a 13 –hour meeting with President Jonathan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Academic Staff Union of Universities ,ASUU, the union’s President Nasir Isa Fagge said “We have had lengthy meeting with Mr. President, rubbing minds on how best to address the problem of university education in this country.”But the ASUU president said it was up to the union’s members to end or continue with the strike;“that is up to our members,” Fagge said in response to reporters’ question.
He declared further, “We now have a message from Mr. President that we are going to take to our members and we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr. President.”
Labour Minister, Emeka Wogu was hopeful that the strike would be called off soon. “We made progress, the President of ASUU told you that they are going back with a message from the Federal Government back to their members and the message is full of high expectations and hope.”
Wogu told reporters after the meeting that there were indeed “high expectations and hope. So our prayers is that they come back with positive outcome. They might not even come back to meet us, they might take decisions there that will meet your expectations.”
“Nigerians should be patient for ASUU to finish their meetings and come out with a message to Nigerians,” the Labour minister said.
The bottom line is that Nigerian university lecturers’ strike continues until ASUU decides otherwise.(Breaking news,Nigerian university,Nigerian news)
