Ajayi said the non-collection of the processed licences was because of the nonchalant attitudes of some motorists toward getting involved in the process of obtaining it.
He advised applicants to always follow due process in processing their driving licences to eliminate the activities of touts and middlemen.
The sector commander urged those who applied for the document to go to the driver’s licence centres and check if theirs were among those awaiting collection.
He said that the FRSC and the officials of Anambra Internal Revenue would soon create a one-stop shop to ease the process of procurement and issuance of driving licences.
“We are setting up a one-stop shop where relevant agencies will be attending to applicants wishing to obtain driving licences without traversing the length and breadth of the city before getting them.’’
Ajayi advised applicants to cultivate the habit of processing their driving licences to ensure that they get genuine ones.
“They should stop creating agents or middlemen on their own, let them come out and ask questions and raise complaints so that we can document and act on them.
“Some expired licences may be rejected by the computer for some reasons; that is why we encourage applicants to come and interface with us on their problems so that we can jointly find solutions to them,” he said.
Ajayi warned FRSC staff to desist from processing driving licences through proxy, adding that racketeers would be administratively handled.
On what the FRSC has for 2018, Ajayi promised that it would be increased public enlightenment, advocacy, enforcement and professionalism of personnel for safer motoring environment.
He said the corps would ensure more effective communication by leveraging on social media and technology to drive its activities.
Ajayi said improved rescue and post-crash response with more capacity training for FRSC personnel and professionalism will be part of its core policy objectives
He said that there would be increased ease of doing business through speedy and seamless issuance of driving licences and number plates to motorists. (NAN)
