#TrackNigeria – A former Inspector General of Police, M D. Abubakar, mni has been elected as the new President, Alumni Association of the National Institute( AANI).
Newsdiarynline reports that Abubakar defeated a sitting President, Mr. Bolaji Khaleel, mni who lost his re-election bid.
Abubakar polled 129 votes to clinch the coveted seat. The runner -up, Mr. Muyiwa Odejayi, mni got 72 votes, while the Khaleel garnered 36.
Also Umar Samaila Sifawa, mni polled 105 to emerge as the Financial Secretary. He defeated Omonomi Fagbemi, mni who got 97 votes. Equally, Mr Ogbonna Onyesi, mni was returned as Publicity Secretary with 109 votes. He defeated his challenger Mr. Victor Banjo, mni who polled 74 votes.
At the event also, Christy Mbonu, mni was elected as Social/Welfare Secretary with 130 votes to defeat Godwin Mbam,mni who polled 28 votes.
Dr Nasirdeen Usman,mni was returned unopposed as the Secretary General of AANI. Mrs Aisha, mni was re-elected unopposed as Vice President. Some other officers were equally returned unopposed.
The elections were held as part of the activities to mark the 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of AANI held in Abuja on Saturday.
In his acceptance speech, the new President of AANI, MD Abubakar assured members that he would run an inclusive administration.
It could be recalled that before retiring as Inspector General of Police,ex IGP MD Abubakar also served as a Commissioner of police Lagos State, among others.
Among the long list of members present at the meeting were acting IGP MA Adamu, mni, former chairman of EFCC Ibrahim Lamorde, mni, Governor elect of Borno State, Umara Zulum, mni, Comrades Isa Aremu mni and John Odah, mni, among others.
