First West Africa Mountain Cycling Championship: Nigeria’s Kurotumi emerges winner

A Nigerian, Abaka Kurotumi has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the West Africa king of the Mountain Cycling championship in Ghana.

The National coach, cycling, Mohammed Bashiru, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Tuesday in Abuja.

 

He said Ghanaian’s Solomon Tagoe finished second while Burkina Faso’s Guigmde Arnaud came third in the one day race which attracted over 60 participants.

 

Bashiru said the 60 participants battled for a distance of 48.57km, adding that Kurotumi became winner after sustaining the tempo to get to the end.

 

According to the national coach, the occasion is the first ever International Africa cycling event, dubbed West Africa King of the Mountain Cycling Championship.

He said it was hosted in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture, the Traditional leaders in Kwahu and the Ghana Cycling Federation.

Also speaking on the event, the President of Cycling Federation of Nigeria, (CFN) Giandomenico Massari, described Kurotumi’s victory as the beginning of better thing to come for the game in Nigeria.

Massari said the federation had intensified efforts since he assumed office as president to popularise the sport in the country.
