The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame (Dr.) Patience Goodluck Jonathan, has congratulated adherents of the Islamic faith, especially the women on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, one of the two main festivals in the Islamic calendar.
The First Lady urged Moslem women to use the opportunity of the celebrations to reflect on how they can be the vanguards of promoting peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance in their communities individually and collectively.
The First Lady stated on Tuesday in Abuja in her Sallah message.
While urging women to also use the festive occasion to offer thanksgiving, Dame Patience appealed to them to spare a thought for the less privileged during the celebratory season by demonstrating gestures of kindness to them. She pointed out that this was important because Islam is a religion of love and compassion.
While reiterating the importance of prayer, Dame Jonathan urged all Muslim faithful to use the occasion of the Sallah to offer prayers for the nation’s unity, progress and prosperity.
