Minister of State for Works Ambassador Bashir Yuguda has said that with the level of progress so far achieved on the Benin Shagamu Express way, the Federal Government will deliver the road to Nigerians by 2013.
A statement by Hadi Y. Alhassan press secretay/SA (media) to minister of state for works said Ambassador Yuguda made this pledge while on an inspection tour of the road during the weekend, pointing out that the section one of the road had been fully recovered while the notorious portions in Ore town which had been a nightmare to Nigerians plying that road, had also been fully rehabilitated.The phase I of the road is 100 per cent completed, while the phase II of the road project is 80 per cent completed. These developments had tremendously reduced the travel time from Benin to Lagos from 9 to 4 hours.
In another development, the Minster confirmed that the contract for the Ada-Okere-Ukoni-Amondokhian road in Esan North East Local Government had been awarded by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the construction of the project would be flagged-off soon.
Other projects inspected by the Minister include the completed recovered N 1.3 billion Auchi gully erosion as well as Ayogwuri wash out. The Highways affected by the two wash outs have been completely rehabilitated.
Also,Ambassador Yuguda pointed out that Federal Ministry of works will soon re-introduce weight bridges so as to check excess axel load which had been impacting negatively on the life span of our roads.
The Minister who led the delegation to inspect the state of Nigerian roads in the South-Eastern part of this country has promised Nigerians that the Goodluck Jonathan administration will do all that is possible in making Nigerian roads motorable. He also added that Mr. President is considering all parts of this country as his constituency; more especially as it relates to the provision of road infrastructure to the entire nation.
