A huge of number of sad-looking female contractors protested in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi State in Northern Nigeria over government’s refusal to pay three years feeding money for junior and senior secondary schools.
According to the leader of the contractors Hajiya Maryam Badariya, since 2015 the state government has not paid a dime to the contractors. She said thedebt has now accumulated to N1.8bn of capital without profit.
She added that because of this refusal to pay the money, many have died and several others are down with differContractorsent ailments.
Maryam lamented that since their monies are being held by the government, their children have been withdrawn from private schools,Many others can’t even send them to public schools..
She sobbed while saying that all appeals to the governor Senator Atiku Bagudu fell on deaf ears.
Therefore, she called on president Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the governor to have mercy on them by paying them at least what they have spent on the contract even without profit for them to survive, describing their situation as pathetic.
Efforts to get Commissioner Of Information, Gado Marafa to speak on the matter were unsuccessful.
