Wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Patient Jonathan has commended the Federal Capital Territory, Administration for construction of a multi-discipline youth center in Abuja even as the FCT Minister Sen. Bala Mohammed named the centre after Dame Patience Jonathan.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony Tuesday, Patient said the initiative was a bold stride and strategic to the youth empowerment and reduction of all forms of social vices especially terrorism affecting the nation.
She said with the facility at the centre, coupled with the talents of Nigerian youths, the centre would serve as a robust platform that would engender youth empowerment, job creation and other work based competencies.
According to her, “The Youth Centre, I am told is expected to address the problems of social instability, militancy, terrorism, kidnapping, thuggery, drug abuse, prostitution and other social vices amongst youth.
“I am confident that the training programmes and skill to be impacted in this centre will provide a robust platform for youth empowerment, job creation, moral re-orientation and acquisition of work-based competencies, for self-reliance, social security and national building.
The President’s wife called on the youth to freely express themselves especially in areas that would advance the center for their own good and pride of the nation tasking them to “your suggestions on other ways to manifest your talents are welcome.
Patient who lauded the effort of the Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, Mrs. Blessing Onuh for the vision and resilience to ensure the delivery on the project added that the project would also contribute to peace in the country as many youths who are skilled from the centre would become self reliant and make positive contribution to society.
Justifying the reason for renaming the Centre after Dame Patient Goodluck Jonathan, Bala said the activities of the first lady on women and children has been astronomical as it has uplifted the lives of many in the country impressing on him the need to honour her by naming the centre after her.
President of National Youth Council of Nigerian, Wale Ajani called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration to allow youth to run the centre for maximal expression of the Youths capacity to contribute to the society.No tags for this post.
