Bala_MohammedIn order to enhance the procurement, storage and distribution of drugs, laboratory reagents, medical gases and other specialized medical items to all FCT Administration Hospitals, the FCT Executive Committee has approved that the Abuja Central Medical Stores (ACMS) operate in line with the National Drug Distribution Guidelines.
The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, made this disclosure on Monday after the FCT Executive Meeting at the Banquet Hall, FCT Minister’s Residence, Gwarinpa I District, Abuja.
The Minister revealed that the approval is to further ensure regular supply of quality and cost effective medical supplies to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory is in consonance with the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Senator Mohammed recalled that the Federal Ministry of Health in 2011 issued the National Drug Distribution Guidelines, which mandated all the States of the Federation to establish State Drug Distribution Centres (SDDCs).
According to him, the main objective of this policy is to put in place a sustainable system for the efficient and effective supply of safe, affordable and good quality drugs at all levels of healthcare on the basis of health needs, in the Public and Private Sectors.
It may be noted that a memorandum on this policy had earlier been approved by the FCT Minister and thus, the FCT EXCO has just ratified the approval.
