End Moroccan Colonial rule in Western Sahara – Group

By Matthew Abi

The Nigerian movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara NMLWS has called for the end of Moroccan Colonial rule in Western Sahara in recognition of the right of the people of Western Sahara having to self- rule in their own country on Tuesday in Abuja.

Dr. Dipo Fashina, the Coordinator for the Nigerian movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara, reiterated the call while he briefed the press. He  said it is vital that the UN General Assembly sets a date for the holding of the self determination referendum for the people of Western Sahara. He argued that  any delay in enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence risks further destabilizationof  an already volatile situation in the region.

Recall that  the Western Sahara is the last African decolonization case, and has been on the agenda of the United Nations since 1963 when the territory, known then as Spanish Sahara, was placed on the UN list of non-self governing territories, whose people at that time were subjected to colonial and foreign domination.

More details coming shortly…..
