Elections: Security agents pledge neutrality

#TrackNigeria: Heads of security agents in Anambra have pledged adequate security and neutrality by security personnel during the conduct of the Feb 16 and March 2 general elections.

Mr Garba Umar, Commissioner of Police in Anambra, made the pledge at the end of meeting of members of Inter Agency Consultative Committee Meeting on Election Security on Friday in Awka.

The committee chaired by Garba and co-chaired by Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner has all heads of security agents in Anambra as members.

Garba after the meeting told journalists that members looked at where minor and major problems were anticipated during the elections.

“After identifying the areas where problems could occur, we were able to come up with solutions with a view to making sure that we achieve hitch-free election,” he said.

The police commissioner said that more than 8, 000 security personnel would be deployed to 4,608 polling units across the state.

Garba said that the security personnel would show neutrality and professionalism during the exercise.

“We will play by the rules, while assuring that we provide adequate security in all public institutions throughout the election,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anambra called on all eligible voters to participate fully during the elections.

Orji said he was confident that the elections would be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. (NAN)
