Minister of Information ,Mr Labaran Maku has expressed regret over his statement which likened the defection of some politicians to nomads.
This comment reportedly drew angry reaction from Fulani umbrella body, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
A statement by Joseph Mutah, chief press secretary to Maku today said “any pain caused by the statement is highly regretted.”
The statement said “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku has been drawn to a statement issued by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and insinuations in some quarters that his statement on the politicians who keep defecting from one party to another was meant to hurt the Fulani nomads.
“The Minister wishes to make it clear that the word nomadic was used as a normative term to describe the incessant movement of some of our politicians from one party to another but not to denigrate the Fulani nomads.
According to Mutah , “Mr. Maku has no intention whatsoever to disrespect Fulani nomads with whom he has shared intimacy and excellent relationships since childhood.
“Any pain caused by the statement is highly regretted”, Maku said.
