Why I did not defect to APC, says Sen. Maccido

Senate Ahmed Maccido, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial district has said that he refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only national party in Nigeria.

Maccido was addressing Journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday after touring the eight local governments of the senatorial zone.

“PDP is the only party with a national outlook. It is devoid of any ethnic or religious colourations. In it, the principles of equity, fairness and internal democracy are sacrosanct.

“All members of the party are being given the equal opportunities to vie for any posts and at all levels,” Maccido, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, said.

He further said that he visited Kware, Wamakko, Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Binji, Tangaza, Gudu and Silame local government areas in order to intimate his supporters on why he stayed put in the PDP.

“PDP is the only party that practises true democracy and it gave me the first mandate between 2007 to 2011. It also gave me the current mandate from 2011 to date.

“The fortunes of the people of my constituency, Sokoto state and Nigeria in general are brighter and more guaranteed under the PDP,” he stressed.

He maintained that his loyal supporters advised him against defecting to the APC because doing so was tantamount to betraying the confidence they had reposed in him religiously.
