Gov Abubakar Bello of Niger on Tuesday described the death of former vice-president,Dr Alex Ekwueme, as a great loss to the country.
He also described the deceased as an exceptional leader who played politics without bitterness.
A statement by Malam Jibrin Ndace, the press Secretary to the governor said he received the news of Dr Alex Ekwueme’s death as a shock.
Bello said that the deceased contributed significantly to the nation’s development, adding that history would remember Ekwueme as a statesman who stood for the unity and oneness of Nigeria.
He lauded the hard work, commitment and dedication of the deceased to the development of the nation during his lifetime.
The governor prayed the Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.
