Over 5,000 members of Labour Party who dumped People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 because they felt aggrieved, on Friday returned to the party during PDP State flag-off Campaign for Nsukka LG for September 21, LG Council election at Nsukka Stadium, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Speaking, Hon.Dom Attah, the spokesperson of the returnees said that they returnees felt aggrieved in 2023 because they were badly treated in the party.
Attah who said he was a former member of Enugu State House of Assembly said, they decided to return to PDP because of people oriented achievements of Gov Peter Mbah within one year in office.
“Yes not only because of people oriented achievements of Gov Mbah but also that all our grievencies have been resolved amicably.
“We are also impressed and excited on the choice of Chief Jude Asogwa a successful engineer and philanthropist as the PDP chairmanship candidate for Nsukka LG on the forthcoming LG Council in Enugu State.
“We are over 5,000 members of LP who left PDP in 2023 but returned to PDP today ,”he said.
Welcoming the returnees, Dr Martin Chukwunwike the Chairman of PDP in Enugu State commended the returnees for their wise decisions and assured them that they would be carried along in everything.
Chukwunwike commended chairmanship candidate of the party in Nsukka (Asogwa) party executives and stakeholders for the unity in the party in the area as well as for bringing back aggreived members which he said would give PDP a landslide victory in LG council election.
“The party is happy on the 100 per cent unity in the party in Nsukka LG especially bringing back all the aggrieved members back to PDP one family,”he said.
Speaking the PDP flag-bearer in Nsukka for LG Council election said the people oriented achievements of Gov Mbah in the state have made election campaign easier for them in Nsukka LG.
“People are happy with smart school, hospital, 10-kilometre road and other projects of the Gov Mbah in all the wards in Nsukka LG and have promised to vote massively for PDP.
“There is nothing like Labour party in Nsukka but aggreived PDP members who left the party in 2023 and now have all returned back to PDP.
“PDP in Nsukka is now one family and speaking in one voice so victory is assured in forthcoming council election in the state,” he said.
Asogwa said that all his election manifestos were tandem with Gov Mbah developmental agenda that had transformed Enugu State within one year.
Also speaking Chief Fabian Onah, the State Vice-Chairman, Enugu North Senatorial District, said that PDP would sweep the poll in the September 21 council election because of excellent performance and people oriented achievements of Gov Mbah in Enugu State.
“The numerous achievements of Gov Mbah in the state will ensure victory for PDP as everybody in the state is happy with governor’s achievements ,” Onah said.
Earlier, Mr Chris Ezema, the PDP Chairman in Nsukka LG welcomed the State Executives to Nsukka and assured them that PDP in the area is working in unity to ensure victory for the chairmanship candidate and 20 councillorship candidates in next Saturday council election in the state.
“PDP is the only known party in Nsukka LG since 1999 and victory for all PDP candidates in the council election is assured, “he said.
Our correspondent reports that, the highlight of the event was presentations of PDP party flags to Asogwa the party chairmanship candidate and 20 councillorship candidates in Nsukka LG by the Enugu State PDP Chairman.
Dr Dan Shere former Secretary to Enugu State Government was among dignitaries present during the campaign.
