okonjo-iweala newThe call by Governor Rotimi Amaechi led Nigerian Governors’ Forum,NGF for the resignation of Nigeria’s Finance Minister ,Dr Ngozi Okonjo –Iweala to resign has further split the ranks of Nigerian governors.
At the end of its meeting in Abuja, the NGF said the finance minister should resign.Rivers State Governor Amaechi, while reading the communiqué said “ Members expressed concern in the management of the economy by the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy and called for a strict adherence to the Appropriation Act, 2013, failing which she should resign”
But the Governor Jonah Jang faction of NGF rejected the call for her resignation. The faction said the position of the Amaechi led NGF shows it has constituted itself into an opposition to the presidency.
To further widen the rift,Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan reportedly came out to defend Okonjo-Iweala.Uduaghan said the NNPC should take the blame for most of the disputed issues and not Okonjo Iweala.
The NGF has been split into two after Jang led faction rejected the reelection of Amaechi despite the fact that the Rivers State Governor won the NGF election .
