The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of 15 Resident Electoral Commissiners.12 other nominees are awaiting confirmation.
The confirmation of the 15 RECs followed the consideration of report of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented by the committee chairman Senator Suleiman Nazif (Bauchi North).
Nazif said the committee has screened 15 nominees out of the 27 names forwarded to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari. He added that members of the committee were satisfied with the qualification of the nominees.
Nazif further stated that the names of 12 other nominee will subsequently be forwarded to the Senate for approval.
In his reaction, the Senate President Bukola Saraki congratulated the nominees and wished them a successful tenure.
He expressed hope that they will improve on the gains in the electoral process.
