Chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress ,APC ,Dr Audu Ogbeh has spoken vehemently against those still toying with the idea of breaking up Nigeria.Ogbeh , former chairman ,APC manifesto merger sub-committee who spoke Wednesday at a function organized by the League of Patriotic and Progressive Youths in Abuja observed that indeed there are those who are thinking that breaking up will solve the nation’s problems.He admonished that no one should be deceived by that. “Where do you begin the break and where do you end it? There is no region or state or local government where there aren’t issues of irredentism..So breaking up is not the answer..” He drew attention to the massive refuge crisis that will envelop the West African subregion in the event of such mishap.
Ogbeh also observed that “You young people are not worried about how to break Nigeria; you want to make it better.You want your lives to be better..”
The former minister also lamented over the fact that the Green Passport has become a source of embarrassment because Nigeria is associated with crime abroad .He noted that globalisation is not helping Africa.In fact ,Ogbeh said, as things stand now, “globalisation has become a curse to Africa.”
He slammed the failure of Nigerian governments to embark upon massive housing programmes and promised that the APC will create five new development banks.
Echezona Asuzu ,national coordinator of the Young Partiot commended the efforts of APC in mainstreaming some of the concerns of the youth into party.He especially noted the remarkable role of Ogbeh.He vowed that the group is determined to mobilise 5million youths into APC.
Emma Ezeazu,general secretary ,Alliance for Credible Elections , ACE said in his remarks :’You cannot always claim you are the leaders of tomorrow when the ideas you are carrying are those of yesterday’.He said the youth should jettison the decadent ideas of yesterday and construct tomorrow now.
Among the dignitaries at the event were Engr. Buba Galadima, former national secretary of defunct Congress for Progressive Change,CPC,representatives of the governors of Borno, Osun and Ekiti states.Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti ,the keynote speaker was represented by Comrade Lukman Salihu.Equally present were Honourable Zainab Galadima ,who was recently democratically elected councillor in Abuja and state coordinators of the young patriots among others.
Ms Robina Namusis,resident country director,International Republican Institute,IRI who also addressed the gathering commended Zainab for her achievement. Namusisi added that “ Youth participation and representation in politics should not be relegated to the background but promoted and encouraged by party leadership and stakeholders.”She also significantly that ,“ experience from different parts of the world confirms that there is a strong correlation between youth participation in democratic processes and national development.”
