Barely twenty-four hours after former Kano state governor, Ibrahim Shekarau consulted with his Sokoto state former counterpart, Attahiru Bafarawa has announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Yusuf Dingyadi, Media Aide to Bafarawa, the former governor dumped the APC for the PDP along with his supporters from the 23 local governments of Sokoto state. “He defected based on the principle of consultations with all the stakeholders from the merging legacy parties, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and All Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” he said.
Dingyadi added that decision followed Shekarau’s visit to Bafarawa on Friday. “Politics is not supposed to be stagnate(sic). Every politician must respect the wishes and political directions of his supporters in order to ensure the prominence of their political future and success.”
Only yesterday (Friday), Shekarau had told Journalists that he was in Sokoto to consult with his friend and bothers, especially His Excellency, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa on the predicament of some APC supporters in Kano, Sokoto, Adamawa, Kwara and Rivers states.
Although Shekarau had said that their concern was how to resolve the disagreement between them and the national leadership of the party, Bafarawa has finally announced his defection to the PDP.
