President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked General Owoye Azazi his National Security Adviser,NSA.Also relieved of his appointment is Haliru Bello,the minister of Defence who earlier served as chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,PDP.
Very highly placed sources in the Presidential Villa confirmed to the Newsdiaryonline.com that the two top officials have indeed been sacked.Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retired) has been appointed as the new NSA.
This sack has all the trappings of high level drama as some officials in the Villa said the meeting between President Jonathan and top shots of the villa was still going on when the sack was leaked to the press.It was Reuben Abati, the presidential spokesman who released the news on his twitter [email protected] thus:”NSA Azazi dropped. Col. Sambo Dasuki rtd. New NSA” to signal his new romance with the new media.
President Jonathan returned to Nigeria today after his much criticized trip to Brazil for the Rio+20 Summit.
With the worsening Boko Haram attacks, many had thought the president would reinvigorate his government ,but he didn’t.Worse still even after Azazi blamed the ruling PDP’s zoning formula for the insecurity, many had thought he would be fired but Jonathan retained him until he was finally given booted out today.
