The 1 Division of the Nigerian Army on Monday commenced the training of 100 officers for administrative duties and effective operation on battlefield.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Muhammad said the training framework would aid in enhancing operational effectiveness in combating banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
Muhammad said the training which began on Monday, involved 100 participants drawn from the level of Warrant Officers to Colonel would last for four days.
Represented by the Commander of 41 Engineer Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Tonye Numbare at the opening of the 2018 Planning Cadre, the GOC said the planning cadre was designed to instruct and refresh participants on various aspects of operations and planning process to entrench operational art.
According to the GOC, Warfare has become more complex, mainly due to multiplicity of threats and involvement of various actors in the operating environment.
“Thus, directives emanate from the grand-strategic level for military operations as part of other lines of operation.
“This implies that military operations are required to be articulately planned and executed from the strategic level down to the tactical level bearing in mind the activities of other instruments of national security for attainment of the overall goal of the state,” he said
Muhammad said this planning cadre was expected to enhance our operational effectiveness in the discharge of our constitutional roles, especially at this time that 1 Division is engaged in combating banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
“It is against this backdrop that the cadre is tailored towards some operational needs such a shandling, media interviews, responsibilities of staff branches in operation planning, analysis techniques in operational planning , Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield and Combat Estimate, among others.
“The facilitators are carefully selected due to their wealth of knowledge in operations planning and it is hoped that the cadre will add value to our expertise in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff ,which is to have a professionally responsive NA in the discharge of its constitutional roles,” the GOC added (NAN)
