No fewer than 1, 830 people benefited from the free treatment offered by the Nigerian Army in a medical outreach organised in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The outreach, which began on July 14 and ended on July 15, is part of activities to commemorate Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2018.
Beneficiaries were given polio vaccination, free insecticide mosquito nets besides routine health check-up and treatment during the programme, organised by army personnel from the newly established military hospital in the state.
Speaking at the event, General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the free medical outreach.
Olabanji, who was accompanied by Brig. Gen. Kennedy Udeagbala, Commander 1 Brigade Sokoto, said the programme was part of Nigerian Army’s civil-military social responsibility of providing proper medical attention for the people.
Earlier, the Commander, Military Hospital, Sokoto, Lt. Col. Igwe Amara, expressed satisfaction with the large turnout which, according to him, is a testimony of the people’s confidence in the Nigerian Army as an institution.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the District Head, Sarkin-Sudan Shehu Muhammad, commended the Nigerian Army for the gesture, noting that it would improve the people’s well being.
Muhammad said the people were overjoyed about the programme and were grateful to the Nigerian Army for the sacrifices made to ensure peace and stability in the country.
Major Clement Abiade, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, told NAN that series of activities were organised, including a special sanitation exercise and special prayers in the mosque and church, to conclude NADCEL 2018 celebrations.
The Army spokesman in Sokoto commended members of the public for their cooperation which, according to him, facilitated the successful completion of NADCEL 2018 programmes.
The programme was attended by Maj. Ibrahim Audu, Acting Commanding officer 26 Battalion, Sokoto and other staff officers of the 8 Division, Sokoto. (NAN)
